Painting

Tuesday, July 17th, 2012

A while back I got one of these ‘painting-by-the-numbers’ kits as a present and I was never able to properly finish it until summer vacation. Ah, the joys of being freed of rigorously enforced academic schedules. 🙂 (You couldn’t classify SDSS as such anyways, lol.)

After many hours of standing hunched back to the sky and dabbing at the canvas I’m FINALLY done! XD I can’t take the credit for the composition, and I admit it looks pretty impressive until you realize all I did was fill in the sections as per labeled ^_^” Once I have some more free time I’m thinking I might add texture to it, but will probably need to buy some new paints for that.

But still, cool, right? XD

finished! 🙂

Week 2 Summary

Tuesday, July 17th, 2012

It’s Tuesday of Week 3, so I decided its time to reflect on what I’ve achieved (or lack of, haha XD) in the last week!

  • HUMANITIES – After months of waiting for the release with baited breath, I finally got to read the finale of the Artemis Fowl series –  Artemis Fowl: The Last Guardian, and subsequently began to sob uncontrollably at the AMAZINGNESS of the ending. T.T Seriously good stuff. I’m also in the middle of The Extraordinary Education of Nicholas Benedict, the prequel to the award-winning The Mysterious Benedict Society series, and impatiently awaiting the release of the 4th book of the The Seems series, A Better Place, which is an indie book series that’s virtually unknown! It’s pretty darn legit though, so don’t let the relative newcomer status daunt you. I’m a huge fan ;D As for The 1 AM Astronaut and Other Poems, I got two preliminary book covers done and sketched some concepts for a new (and hopefully the last) retake. Also, did a couple more essay practices and am 95% done with formatting for the eBook (yay!).
  • ART/FANDOMS – Excitedly read The Promise, an Avatar: The Last Airbender comic series and loved the artwork 😉 Also, made a new fan video using saturation/color effects in synch with dubstep for a change – post upcoming XD Of course, it had to be a Lin Beifong tribute. (Seriously, next up is a Toph/Lin Beifong combined AMV, probably to some of Foxes or Daughters’ music XD.) Also, was able to finish my painting – finally! – and worked on digital sketches for the book cover. Additionally, started writing a quick fanfic for Toko. ^///^
  • MANDARIN – Practiced typing and reading comprehension, practiced pronouncing a couple of hard words, and wrote a practice essay without reference guides. I still have a long way to go… -_-
  • SCIENCE – Kept up with news and diligently read my fill of Science articles while watching a few Science TED Talks 🙂 HIGGSTERIA!! ~~ XD
  • TEST PREP – Got a whole bunch of new textbooks and reference materials… ^_^” Poured over the new stuff and finished studying pre-algebra/arithmetic concepts so moved on to Algebra. Practiced non-verbal reasoning and read up on the different types of questions.
  • MUSIC (+ FLUTE PRACTICE) – Brought out my old recorder and had a good time reacquainting my fingers with it to Leaves from the Vine, the song Iroh sings in the Avatar series (I’m so obsessed…. -_-). ^^ Focused more on piccolo tone and am happy to report I’m making progress with inter-octave transfers. XD I’m also insanely happy because my Dad brought me a bunch of pop/rock flute music books that were on sale and they all come with CDs, so I’ve been playing along to improve my sight-reading. I even recorded a new mix highlighting a piccolo/recorder/flute trio to Leaves from the Vine, (in reality, me just switching instruments and layering the tracks haha) but am probably going to scrap it because it sounds unnaturally screechy. ^_^”
  • HEALTH – Went on a couple of ‘field trips’ to the grocery store to help with the shopping and dutifully stuck to my goal of eating more fruits. 🙂 Was feeling cooped up so I ventured outside for a couple of walks and tried not to sit down for too many extended periods of time. ^_^”
  • MATH – Am eternally grateful to Brainpop for its infinite wisdom pertaining to all matters Math-related (and otherwise ;D)! Was able to finish up pre-algebra studies and moved on to using the CPM Extra Help packet to practice the Algebra concepts. Aiming to finish it all up by July 25. 🙂

amazing books 🙂
